Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Skills Audit, Ambassador Rudo Chitiga, this week paid a familiarisation visit to the Geo Pomona Waste Management Facility, where she toured key operational areas including the sorting facility, vehicle garage, restaurant, football pitch, and a range of other infrastructure at the site.
The visit gave Ambassador Chitiga an opportunity to appreciate first-hand the breadth of skills being deployed across the facility’s operations — from waste sorting and logistics to hospitality and grounds management. She commended Geo Pomona for the diverse skills ecosystem the facility has cultivated, noting that it serves as a compelling example of how the green economy can generate meaningful livelihoods.
Ambassador Chitiga expressed her Ministry’s keen interest in forging a collaborative partnership with Geo Pomona, with a view to developing green skills frameworks aimed at broadening Zimbabwe’s waste management agenda. Such a partnership, she noted, would support the training and certification of workers in emerging environmental sectors, contributing to both national skills development goals and the country’s sustainability objectives.
